Saving Susumu Shimazono spirituality, a professor of religious studies at the University of Tokyo host Harry Kreisler welcomes talks Shimazono Susumu, a professor of religious studies at the University of Tokyo for a discussion of popular religious movements in Japan. Professor Shimazono describes the origins of his interest in religious studies, the role of religion in the modernization and the emergence of new religions as a global phenomenon in 1970 with particular reference toJapanese examples. Professor Shimazono distinguishes the intellectual movements of the salvation religions by identifying their unique characteristics and its future development. He also examines Aum Shinrikyo as a terrible event.
